Children often live in a world of
fantasy. Their world is unique, in which
they participate imaginatively. In their
imaginary world, animals and birds speak, and incredible things become credible. Telling stories to satisfy the thirst and
curiosity of children, is an art because the stories should be absorbing enough
to hold their attention. Pathos will stimulate their compassion; suspense will grip
their curiosity, and so these tools must be handled tactfully.
The five stories that will be
posted soon in my blog are meant for children between 7 and 12. In fact, much care has been taken on
diction. After reading them out to a
child of 8, the words which that child found hard to comprehend, were replaced
by simple easy words.
The first three stories are animal
stories. They present the veiled moral
that bad never triumphs. Further, the
stories will encourage children to keenly watch the animal world and pick up
vocabulary associated with the animals.
The fourth story “Sweet Vendor” is about a child’s world, but it is a
story that can be recommended for any readership. “Tommy, the Robot” is a science fantasy,
which will appeal to the imaginative child of the computer age.
I appreciate the creativity of my
son D.Arun Gladwin who transforms my stories into images that speak to the
children.
