SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY …
In a culture where she had freedom and status,
Respected at home and hailed in society,
Damayanties and Sitas were sought after by gods and men.
Places and rivers bore her name with immense pride,
And, gladly did she walk in beauty everywhere.
Alas! cruel times came crushing and squeezing the lovely rose,
Breaking the tender bead, degrading with dowry, tormenting with sati.
Agony of widowhood or denial of fortunes, turned the beauty
Into chattels badly misused and doormats harshly trampled upon.
BUT, bold she was to shatter the fetters and walk in beauty once again.
As daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend,
She loves, serves, cares, sacrifices and is ever loyal.
At school, at home or in the workplace, a marvel she becomes,
Struggles and wins by work, displaying skill and dedication.
As inspiring and empowered woman, she walks in beauty all the time.
Woman! know your potential, be strong and be a winner.
Frontiers beckon you; be a decision maker.
Fight oppression and violence; speak out, be not mute.
Raise awareness, create new order, work for sisterhood,
Root out spiteful laws, and walk in beauty, to greater heights.

Woman is a beacon of hope, in a world that hates.
A symbol of strength, she stands tall and proud.
Let us lift her up, on wings of praise,
For she walks in beauty, with power and grace,
A light in the darkness, with smile on her face.

Woman! know your potential, be strong and be a winner.
