in Bethel.
Jacob lay his head upon a rock,
And closed his eyes in sleep,
But in his dreams, he saw a sight,
That made his soul to leap.
A ladder tall and wide it stood,
Its feet upon the ground,
But in the heavens, its top reached high,
Where angels could be found.
Up and down the angels went,
Ascending and descending, And on the ladder's topmost rung,
The Lord Himself was standing.
He spoke to Jacob in his dream,
And made a great promise, That he would have many offspring,
And be a mighty nation.
When Jacob woke, he was amazed,
And awed by what he'd seen,
He took the stone that he had used,
And made it into a shrine.
He poured oil upon the stone,
And named the place Bethel,
And promised to serve the Lord alone,
For all his life, he'd tell.
So let us learn from Jacob's dream,
And keep our eyes on high, For God is always watching us,
And He will guide us nigh.
I should borrow
Jacob’s ladder
Like the angel
I should climb
In a summer
Starry night.
A little child
With little feet
I should climb it
Rung by rung
I should touch
The velvet sky.
I should hold
Those twinkling bulbs
And pluck one
With my little hand
And let it twinkle In my home
